A Platform for Independent Voices

Are you an indie author with a debut novel or a small catalog? At BLK & Company Reads Bookstore, we are committed to supporting Black independent authors by offering a platform to showcase your work and connect with readers who value diverse and fresh perspectives. Through our Curated Indie Authors Program, we provide an opportunity to spotlight your books, amplify your voice, and share your stories with our community of book lovers.

Program Details

• Who Can Apply?
  We will be primarily focused on Independent authors with a debut novel or a catalog of 1-5 published titles, professionally edited and available in paperback or hardcover, but all indie authors are welcome to apply. We are especially passionate about highlighting underrepresented voices and stories, particularly those from Black authors and the diaspora.

• How It Works:

  1. Submission: Authors submit book details, synopsis, and sample chapter through our online form.
  2. Selection: Each month, we feature 1-2 authors whose works align with our mission.
  3. Promotion: Selected titles receive special placement on our website, as well as promotional exposure through social media, newsletters, and book features.

  • Showcase your book in a curated collection for one month.
  • Reach a dedicated and supportive community of readers who value Black indie authors.
  • Benefit from personalized marketing efforts tailored to your work.

Consignment Terms

• Initial Stock: Authors supply 3-5 physical copies of featured title for initial placement.
• Sales Split: Authors receive 60% of the sale price, while the bookstore retains 40% to support operational costs and promotional campaigns. Need help pricing your book? Use IngramSpark compensation calculator to price your book.
• Program Duration: Titles are featured in-store for 90 days, with the possibility of an extension based on performance and demand.
• Unsold Copies: At the end of the 90-day consignment period, any unsold copies will be returned to the author.
• Payment Terms: Authors will receive payments for sold copies within 15 days of the consignment period's end.
